A world first that changed Arabic text-to-speech

Converting Arabic text into speech is about more than simply reading words aloud. It requires interpreting what is not visible: the implied vowels.

Back in 2001, we took on a unique linguistic challenge: giving a synthetic voice to Arabic, a language where short vowels are not written in most everyday content – newspapers, books, signage, messages, and more.

In 2009, we became:

  • The first company to develop a diacritizer system for Arabic text-to-speech for embedded systems,
  • The first to turn this linguistic complexity into an accessible user experience,
  • The first to lay the foundations for modern Arabic synthetic voices.

Today, we reinforce this pioneering position with a new AI generation of Leila.

AI takes our diacritizer technology further

What started as a world first continues to shape the future of Arabic speech technology.

Building on more than a decade of expertise, we are now taking our diacritizer technology to the next level with AI, achieving greater accuracy, fluency, and expressiveness. With a 99% vowelization success rate, Leila delivers a more natural listening experience and improved speech quality.

This evolution is also the result of extensive development work, including:

  • New recordings,
  • An enriched linguistic corpus,
  • And special attention to isolated words.

This last point is particularly important for people who are visually impaired, as well as individuals living with speech disabilities such as ALS, for whom every word must be pronounced correctly, even when presented without context.

These major improvements are more than an update. They are the continuation of a long-term vision: making every language accessible, without compromise.
