The Swedish publishing house Studentlitteratur has launched the computer-based dictionnary ”Gustavas ordböcker med talsyntes” (Gustavas dictionaries with speech synthesis), for both PC and Mac.
The DVD contains both a Swedish-Swedish and a Swedish-English dictionary. Thanks to speech synthesis from Acapela, the user can listen to the pronounciation of specific words, both in English and in Swedish.
In addition, the English dictionary has a function that helps the user find the right Swedish and English word, even if spelled incorrectly. An embedded application gives suggestions of plausible words with the correct spelling. If you for example types in “inaf”, the application will ask if you meant “enough”.
These features make Gustava’s dictionaries especially suitable for people with reading- and writing troubles.
