The STNA* has chosen Acapela 's TTS to speech enable its ATIS (Automatic Terminal Information Service).
This air traffic control tool provides vital information for landing and departure for any specific airport.
The ATIS broadcasts are used by airports to notify arriving and departing pilots of the current surface weather conditions, landing and departing runways, runway and taxiway conditions. It's a key tool permanently updated with new, variable information.
To speech enable its ATIS system, the STNA chose Acapela 's TTS for its high quality intelligible synthesis. Acapela TTS reads any information out loud, in real time, in English and in French. Abbreviation and exception lexicons perfectly adapt Acapela 's synthesis to the specific vocabulary used in aeronautics, in both languages.
Adding TTS technology to STNA's airport systems is part of a programme launched by the DGAC (National Flight Navigation Authority) to increase systems' scalability and efficiency, and to reduce their cost. Acapela 's TTS is already part of ATIS systems at Roissy, and Orly airports, and soon at Nice, Lyon.
