Bloorview MacMillan Children's Centre and Quillsoft Ltd., Canadian developers of software solutions for people with various disabilities, have chosen Speech Engine, Acapela 's TTS engine for multimedia applications, to speech-enable WordQ.
WordQ software is a writing tool to be used along with standard Windows word processing software. It uses advanced word prediction to suggest to the end user words to use and provides text to speech feedback using Acapela Group Engine.
With WordQ, users of all ages may be helped in writing and editing, to learn new languages or to solve problems linked to dyslexia or learning disability. Letters, words and sentences can be spoken as the end user types. This way, the end users can easily check their typed text, make choices and self-detect mistakes and finally proofread their text.
WordQ software is the first of an intended line of products to help individuals with learning needs or who are learning English as a second language. Design philosophy was driven by advice from educators to keep it simple and not duplicate functions already provided by current word processors.
Already available for the Canadian and US market, WordQ will be soon customised with UK, French, German, Dutch, Danish, Spanish and Swedish versions.
