Norwegian newspapers speech empowered by Acapela.

December 5th, 2005

The service, called Telefonavisa, helps users with reading difficulties to easily access daily news, with a simple toll-free number. The caller navigates the service using their voice. To hear all about the latest news, he/she just needs to select the news category to hear the summary. Then the user can decide to hear more about the selected subject or to move on to the next article. It's that simple. Kari, Acapela's high quality Norwegian voice reads aloud the latest news published on the newspapers' web sites with a natural and pleasant voice, for the full comfort of the caller.

"According to my experience with people who have reading difficulties, the Norwegian market prefers female speech synthesis over male ones. Therefore, Kari was, with her clear pronunciation and intonation, a natural choice." says Stein Strlen, CEO of VoiceASP, who designed the service for Blindeforbundet.

Today, eight key Norwegian dailies are available: VG-Nett, Adresseavisa, Aftenbladet, Nordlys, Fedrelandsvennen, Aftenposten, Aften och Bergens Tidende. The use of the service is increasing since Kari's golden tones empowered the service. An average user listens to a newspaper 13-14 minutes at a time. Telefonavisa, has been developed in cooperation between Norges Blindeforbund, VoiceASP and Acapela Group. Telefonavisa is free and available 24/7.

The phone number is (+47) 800 58 600.
