Automotive: CarBot has chosen Acapela to voice control their embedded multimedia services.
Acapela Group, European leader in speech solutions, presents ‘Acapela Onboard', its solution entirely dedicated to the automotive market, during the American ‘Convergence' event. CarBot, also present at the exhibition, has chosen Acapela for its consumer embedded multimedia system. CarBot is the first easy-to-use and to set up, in-car entertainment computer system. It can be installed into any car that has a radio. Acapela's synthesis reads back emails or any other text that is sent to the unit via WiFi or wireless connectivity, using an extremely natural voice. With voice feedback, the driver can then navigate a collection of MP3s, or catch up on recent e-mails, news stories, or RSS feeds without taking his eyes off the road.

Today, navigation and communication in general, are key concerns for car manufacturers : how can you activate services, navigate, read information, follow a plan without ever taking your eyes off the road and your hands off the wheel ? The issue is : how to convey information, safely ?
More and more navigation systems, car radios and mobile phones have integrated speech solutions. Speech recognition (ASR) and speech synthesis (TTS) speech solutions can create a real natural dialogue, without endangering the driver. Many services can therefore be managed through speech via ASR and deliver information using Text-To-Speech technology : car navigation, traffic informationonboard alerts and diagnostics systems, communication etc.
