Mobility: Yeti chooses the right voice track

Yeti Mobile Solutions, a software development company dedicated to the design of mobile solutions for users in a mobile world, has chosen Acapela Group technology to voice-drive its Dutch end users.

Yeti Mobile Solutions offers with its mobile solution - simply called Yeti - a PDA-based integrated solution for traffic information via GPRS, navigation, automated trip registration and tracking & tracing.

The solution is aimed at small and medium-sized companies but is also sold to end users. Yeti uses Acapela text to speech to vocalize any traffic information, instantaneously updating the driver with any incoming status information on accidents or congestion. The voice duplicates the information displayed graphically and textually, allowing the driver to keep his eyes on the road and his hands on the wheel, for enhanced efficiency and safety. To avoid an overload of spoken traffic messages, the driver can specify criteria of relevance e.g. relating to the distance between current vehicle position and the reported traffic event and the difference in direction between congested traffic and current route.

Yeti offers the most complete PDA navigation package available on the Dutch market. It makes use of the much awarded TomTom Navigator 2 navigation core and adds traffic information, trip registration, as well as functionalities normally only available in dedicated fleet management products: tracking & tracing and emergency notification. The use of GPRS for traffic information has the advantage (compared to RDS-TMC) of a far higher bandwidth and consequently more up to date traffic information. For professional fleet owners, Yeti can easily be extended and adjusted to meet specific needs such as fleet management or mobile service management.
