Accessibility to elections for ALL: Acapela voice synthesis helps visually impaired users to vote for Spanish national election on Nov.20th.

November 18th, 2011

Antonio, the Acapela male Spanish voice, will be used during the upcoming elections to provide audio support.

Speech synthesis will allow blind and visually impaired voters to participate in the elections without requesting assistance, therefore respecting their right to privacy.

The Spanish Ministry of Internal Affairs will be running a pilot test and Antonio's natural and pleasant voice will contribute to erasing barriers providing audio access to written information.

An application using Acapela's Spanish voice will guide the voter with audio information and provide them all necessary information to select their candidate up to the confirmation and printing of the ballot paper, which is inserted in an envelope ready for the vote. Free from any assistance and fully confidentially.

The pilot will be held in Distrito 02 IES Juan de la Cierva, Calle de la Caoba, 1. 28005 Madrid.
